Aug. 25, 2009 (Nashville, TN) – Sidewalk Prophets makes their CBA industry debut today with the release of their critically acclaimed CD, These Simple Truths.
Applauding media reviews include:
PhantomTollbooth.com
“…this is a quality product for a maiden album. Good songwriting, musicianship and vocals and the whole package well produced by Ian Eskelin makes for an impressive first attempt from a bunch of newcomers.”
GospelMusicChannel.com
“Falling somewhere between the infectious youth-inclined rock n’ roll of Audio Adrenaline and the more dynamic side of MercyMe, the band is poised for radio success. Still, These Simple Truths is packed with plenty of more meaningful morsels than just those suited for airwave attraction, including messages of self-assurance, personal empowerment and remembering everyone’s part of God’s creation no matter their shape, size or color.”
Soul-Audio.com
“These Simple Truths is a gem of a debut for these talented artists, combining solid vocals, a pleasantly diverse musical palette, skillful lyricism, and the well-honed talents of uber-producer Ian Eskelin… Sidewalk Prophets are truly a shining light on the horizon of Christian music. The talent that this debut showcases is hopefully only a hint of what we’ve got to look forward to in the future.
BrandonKlassen.com
“With songs that are encouraging and uplifting, this radio-friendly fare is the best I've heard in this increasingly popular genre… In These Simple Truths, Sidewalk Prophets really stand out from all the music choices you have, with something important to say and something worth listening to.”
CCM.com
“…Dave Frey and Ben McDonald are proof that hard work and prayer go hand in hand. The band's talent has been evident from the get-go, and their strong work ethic, demonstrated by playing every possible camp and church outing, built an audience the right way: slow and steady…Think MercyMe mixed with Brandon Heath, and you'll get a good idea of not only the sounds involved, but sales possibilities as well… Sidewalk Prophets will quickly be mentioned in the same breath as other pop luminaries.”
Sidewalk Prophets is further featured on HearItFirst.com with an acoustical performance of their hit debut single, “The Words I Would Say.” Beginning this week, the band is also being highlighted at Soul-Audio.com in the “artist in residence” section with bi-monthly blogs written by the members.
In addition to media attention for the album, Sidewalk Prophet’s “The Words I Would Say” is also garnering praise at radio. The single continues a steady climb at AC radio, currently claiming Top 10 Indicator and Top 20 Monitored positions.
Orlando’s Z88.3, one station among many having success among listeners with “The Words I Would Say,” comments, “Within minutes of the first spin we were getting calls and emails about how great the message was and wanting to know who it was… No matter how bad your day is going or what you are going through, you hear this song on the radio and nothing else matters because you know someone cares about you.”
Produced by Ian Eskelin (Stellar Kart, Francesca Battistelli, Sarah Reeves), These Simple Truths centers on the hope that Christ’s love provides. Like most of the band’s recordings, their ministry focus is to help people embrace the uniqueness God has given them.
Already touring more than 150 dates per year, the band has shared the stage with acts like Mercy Me, Michael W. Smith, Jeremy Camp, Audio Adrenaline and others before signing with the Nashville label, Fervent Records. Sidewalk Prophets initially made a name for themselves at Indiana’s Anderson University where frontmen and main songwriters Dave Frey and Ben McDonald met.
